Veteran India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla shared his 15-member India squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC 2023) which will be played in the country from October 5 onwards.

The Indian team will play their opening match of the CWC 2023 on October 8 against Australia in Chennai, but before that, they will participate in the Asia Cup 2023 tournament, which begins on August 30 and will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

A 17-member squad was selected by the BCCI selection panel and it is expected that the final 15-member World Cup squad might also be selected from these players as well.

While there is some time for the final squad to be announced, 2-time World Cup winner Piyush Chawla revealed his 15-member India squad for the ICC event.

To begin with, Piyush Chawla picked Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as his openers to go with Virat Kohli at no.3. Then as a surprise, he picked Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma for the middle order spot, completely omitting Shreyas Iyer.

Suryakumar Yadav has struggled in ODI formats, while Tilak Varma is yet to make his debut in the 50-over format. While Iyer was out for considerable time due to injury, he has regained 100% fitness and roaring to go in the Asia Cup 2023, but Chawla decided to leave him out of his 15-member Indian squad.

He picked two wicketkeepers in KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan and went for three spinners in Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Hardik Pandya was picked as an all-rounder along with Jadeja, while Chawla, picked four frontline pacers in Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.
