Former India captain Rohit Sharma has spoken up on his ICC World Cup 2027 selection after months of speculation. In response to a question about whether he will participate in the ODI World Cup at that time, top Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma stated on Thursday, September 10, 2026, that October 2027 is still a long way off.  

The former skipper made a rare comment on the sidelines of a Mumbai event regarding his involvement in the mega-event and the direction his career will go since he is no longer playing the T20I and Test formats.

"October 2027 is far away; we will see about it then," said Rohit when asked about his participation at the Global Fintech Fest.

South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia will jointly host the ODI World Cup in 2027.

He was also asked if, in the event of an Indian title win, there will be an open bus procession to celebrate with fans, similar to the one held in Mumbai in 2024 when the team led by Rohit won the T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

"...I do not think a bus parade would be possible now," Rohit replied.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has made it plain that there is no place for conjecture about the batting great because he is doing well. The last time Rohit Sharma played an ODI, he scored a brilliant 138 against England at Lord’s.

"He is playing superbly in all matches. So what more do you want? In the last match (against England), he scored 138 runs, so why is there speculation? I do not want to give some fodder for the speculators," Saikia told reporters after the BCCI's review meeting here at its headquarters some days ago. 

Rohit Sharma will likely be in action for India when they host the West Indies for three ODIs at home, with three T20Is, later this month.
