The Indian women’s cricket team on Sunday scripted history as they clinched their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title. India women defeated South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title in the final on November 2 in Navi Mumbai.
Renuka Thakur, a Himachal Pradesh native, is among those reveling in pride after playing an important role in the team's historic victory.
Recognizing Renuka's outstanding performance, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the entire Indian women's team, adding, "The daughters of India have made the nation proud on the world stage."
The Chief Minister went on to say that having a daughter from Himachal in the World Cup-winning squad is a source of great pride for the state.
“Rohru’s daughter Renuka Thakur has fulfilled the dream that every girl from the hills sees. Overcoming struggles to become part of a World Cup–winning team is a matter of pride for both India and Himachal. Renuka has proven that passion and self-belief can conquer any challenge," Sukhu remarked.
Renuka would receive an INR 1 crore cash incentive, as declared by the Himachal CM. The Chief Minister also personally congratulated the pacer over the phone on her achievement.
On the other hand, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced an INR 1 crore cash reward for pacer Kranti Gaud.

"I want to congratulate everyone for the way the daughter of our state and the daughters of the country performed brilliantly in cricket last night. Madhya Pradesh's daughter Kranti Gaud was also part of the women's World Cup-winning team. I want to congratulate Kranti and give her an incentive of Rs 1 crore from the state government. I announce to give Rs one crore to Kranti, the daughter of Chattarpur," Chief Minister Mohan Yadav told reporters here.
Kranti Goud, of Ghuwara in Chhatarpur, Bundelkhand, was instrumental in taking the Indian women's cricket team to the World Cup final with her bowling performance.
