The BCCI has not yet finalized a victory parade for the Indian women cricket team's World Cup win and celebration plans will be made upon the return of senior officials from ICC meetings in Dubai, board Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Monday (November 3).
India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final to clinch their maiden ODI World Cup trophy at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday (November 2).
Led by Shafali Verma's sensational knock of 87 and Deepti Sharma's five-wicket haul, the Women in Blue emerged victorious on the biggest stage, ending their long-awaited global title drought.
“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” Saikia told IANS while speaking from Mumbai airport. “I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meeting. Several officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly.”
The ICC meetings, scheduled from November 4–7 in Dubai, will have most of the BCCI’s top brass. Saikia added that the board would also raise the issue of the Asia Cup trophy with the Jay Shah-led body to seek its rightful return.
“We will take up the Asia Cup trophy matter with the ICC and hopefully get our trophy back with the respect and honour it deserves,” he said.
Notably, the Asia Cup 2025 concluded with a massive controversy on September 28 as the Indian men’s team refused to receive their winners' trophy and medallions from ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and posted anti-India sentiments on social media throughout the tournament.
Furious with India’s stance, Naqvi took the silverware and medals in his custody. After BCCI’s protest, the PCB boss said that if India wants the trophy and medals, skipper Suryakumar Yadav can collect them from his ACC office in Dubai.
Meanwhile, BCCI has announced that the Indian women’s team, along with the support staff, will receive a total prize money of Rs 51 crore in recognition of their World Cup glory.
“Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah announced a 300 percent increase in women’s prize money. Earlier, the prize fund was 3.88 million dollars, which has now been raised to 14 million dollars. In addition, the BCCI has decided to reward the entire Indian team — players, coaches, selectors, and support staff — with a total of Rs 51 crore,” Saikia said in an interaction with ANI.
