India completed a smashing 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final on Sunday (September 17) in Colombo to win the tournament for the 8th time and end their five-year wait for a title in a multi-nation event.
Sri Lanka were blown away for just 50 in 15.2 overs after electing to bat first, as Mohammed Siraj picked up his career-best figures of 6/21, including four wickets in one over. Hardik Pandya also took 3/3. Five Sri Lankan batters fell for ducks as the team crashed for their second-lowest total in ODIs.
India promoted Ishan Kishan to open the innings with Shubman Gill in pursue of the 51-run target as the duo took just 6.1 overs to complete the job and seal a famous 10-wicket win with 263 balls remaining.
With just three weeks left for India's opening match of the World Cup against Australia, this title win will act as a massive confidence booster, particularly the nature of their emphatic wins over Pakistan in Super-4 and the twin wins over Sri Lanka.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media for a post-match press conference, where he was seen at his cheeky best when he was interrupted while speaking by the loud sound of fire crackers being burst by the Indian fans nearby.

Rohit said, “It gives us a lot of confidence to come here and win a tournament like this, through the tournament we saw a lot of..” before he had to pause due to the crackers.
“Arey World Cup jeetne ke baad phodo ye sab..(burst crackers after we win the World Cup),” he was quick to say cheekily, and then continued on with his press conference.
Rohit Sharma won his second Asia Cup as captain, with the previous title coming in 2018 in UAE, when he led India in absence of regular captain, Virat Kohli, who was rested for the tournament.
His next challenge would be a three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on September 22.
