India and Nepal faced off against one another for the first time in ODIs on September 4 in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 tournament and saw the Rohit Sharma-led side hammering the minnows by 10 wickets.
Nepal had earlier lost to Pakistan as well in Group A and was eliminated from the race for the Super 4s stage. However, it was a learning curve for the Nepal team, for whom, it was the first time facing the two heavyweights of the format.
After the India vs. Nepal match, the Nepal players visited the Indian dressing room for autographs, and photos and got some guidance from Indian players as well.
India captain Rohit Sharma even signed a jersey for star Nepal skipper Sandeep Lamichhane and clicked a photo with him. But this gesture of Rohit has put him in hot soup with fans, as Lamichhane has a court case going against him for sexual assault back in Nepal and he is currently out on bail.
Lamichhane faced charges of sexual coercion and faced suspension from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) last year after an arrest warrant came out against him in Kathmandu over an alleged case of forcing another person.
He had to take a break from the CPL tournament and only returned to international cricket some time back. The 23-year-old bagged figures of 10-0-69-1 against Pakistan and 4-0-39-0 against India in the Asia Cup 2023.
However, the fans were not happy with Rohit Sharma’s gesture of signing a jersey for Lamichhane and clicking a photo with him and reacted on social media.
