India and Pakistan faced off in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 in Kandy, Sri Lanka on September 2nd and Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain won the toss and chose to bat first.
India went with two spinners in Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav and three pacers with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj being joined by Shardul Thakur as Mohammad Shami missed out.
Pakistan came into this encounter with the same playing XI which played in the dominating win over Nepal in Multan.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started cautiously against Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi at the start and Rohit even hit a couple of boundaries against the pacer. But a rain break proved to be his undoing as soon after the play resumed, Shaheen Afridi found his groove.
He set up Rohit Sharma brilliantly by taking the ball away from him from a shortish length and then brought one into the Indian captain and bent his off-stump back. Rohit walked off for 11 in 22 balls.

Virat Kohli came in next and started with a brilliant cover drive for a four off Naseem Shah. He then came face to face with Shaheen Afridi and after carefully playing two deliveries, the lanky left-arm pacer bowled one across him.
Kohli in an attempt to run it down to third man, chopped the ball onto his leg-stump and walked off for 4 runs.
