Virat Kohli notched up his much-awaited 71st international century on Thursday (September 8) as he slammed 122* off 61 balls in India’s last Asia Cup 2022 Super-4 clash against Afghanistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
It came in the form of his maiden T20I hundred and after a wait of nearly three years, 1020 days to be precise. Before this, Kohli’s last century was against Bangladesh in a day-night Test match at the Eden Gardens in November 2019.
Kohli’s first T20I ton, studded with 12 fours and 6 sixes, is now the highest individual T20I score for India, surpassing Rohit Sharma's 118 against Sri Lanka in 2017.
He reached the landmark in 53 balls during the penultimate over of India’s innings with a six over deep mid-wicket off pace bowler Fareed Ahmad.

Thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten hundred, India posted a mammoth 212/2 in their stipulated 20 overs. Stand-in skipper KL Rahul also made a handy contribution of 41-ball 62 and was also involved in a 119-run opening stand with Kohli.
