The Pakistani players were still tense and nervy in the dressing room despite them needing just 7 runs in the 20th over bowled by Arshdeep Singh to win the match in the Asia Cup 2022’s Super 4s encounter against India on September 4 in Dubai.
Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah had done the majority of the job in the 19th over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar who went for 19 runs as he was hit for six and two fours. Arshdeep needed to defend 7 runs in the last 6 balls, which led to some tense moments in the Pakistani dressing room.
PCB shared a video showcasing those moments in which Shabad Khan tells Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain to pray and Babar can be heard shouting “Paanch (five) fielders aa gaya bhai),” referring to the fielding restriction forced on India for the final stages due to delay in finishing overs.
Babar also instructs Shadab to sit down after every ball, Mohammad Rizwan keeps peeping in from the balcony to chat and ask “kitne run hai?!” Or to predict to his teammates.
Just after Asif Ali smashes a four in the final over, Rizwan says “is ball mein khatam! (It ends this ball)”. Then Asif falls. Shadab holds his head. Others pray. Hasnain slaps his thighs and goes, “s**t!”. Shadab cries out again: “Dua maangni padegi” (Got to pray)”.
Then the winning hit comes and joy erupts. Shadab, who is probably next to bat, goes berserk. Smiles all around. Everyone hugs each other and as ever, Rizwan keeps chattering.
