Team India and Pakistan have both been fined by the ICC for maintaining slow over-rates in their recent clash in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday, August 28. India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in a thrilling chase.
Pakistan had made 147 runs batting first after losing the toss as Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4/26) and Hardik Pandya (3/25) routed the Men in Green batting lineup. However, India also found itself in a problem at 89/4 in 14 overs during the chase.
But Virat Kohli (35), Ravindra Jadeja (35), and Hardik Pandya (33*in 17 balls) ensured that India reached the target in the last over and won the match by 5 wickets.
After the match, Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions after Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam's sides were ruled to be two overs short of their respective targets after time allowances were taken into consideration.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Both captains pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. Both India and Pakistan were fined 40 percent of their match fees.
On-field umpires Masudur Rahman and Ruchira Pilliyaguruge, third umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel leveled the charges.
