Team India have experimented with many players since their shocking group-stage elimination from the T20 World Cup last year.
They now have a variety of options to choose from as they start preparing for the T20 World Cup 2022, slated to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.
Even as the Men in Blue are set to begin their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28, skipper Rohit Sharma said that the quest to find “new answers” will continue.
“We have decided that we will try out a few things and some would work, some won’t. But no harm in trying and only if you try, will you know for sure what works and what doesn’t. You will get answers,” Rohit told reporters on Saturday (August 27).
Some of the notable experiments of the Indian team include opening with Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant in T20Is, and giving the new ball to all-rounder Deepak Hooda.
“If we get a chance to try, we need to try combinations. We have decided to try things still and if we face difficulties, no problems. We will keep on experimenting and we shouldn’t be scared to find new answers, whether it is batting or bowling combinations,” the captain said.
Rohit, however, made it clear that there will be a set combination in the T20 World Cup 2022.
“We got a lot of answers in last 8-10 months. When the World T20 starts, we will see what needs to be done,” he said.
The Indian skipper also backed Virat Kohli, saying that the veteran batter has looked in good touch. Notably, Kohli is returning to the national team after a short break, following an extended lean patch with the bat.
“As far as I am concerned, I found him in absolutely good touch. He is back after a month-long break, and I didn’t see him doing anything extraordinarily different,” Rohit said.
There is a lot of excitement around the Asia Cup 2022 clash between India and Pakistan. Since both nations don’t play each other in bilateral series, the craze for the game becomes unmatched.
For Rohit Sharma, however, it’s just another game.
“It might be surprising (to see him interact with Pakistan fans) but not for us. It is pretty normal thing for us. You people can create hype, I will focus on the match. Every player has different process of preparing. Some do practising, some watch TV, some like to sleep before a big game,” he said.
