Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has reacted to the tremendous talk around Virat Kohli’s form with the bat and his international future ahead of the India-Pakistan clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on August 28.
Kohli is going through the worst phase of his career and has not scored a century since 2019. He has been struggling for runs across the formats for nearly three years now, and all eyes will be on the right-hander in the Asia Cup 2022, as he is returning from an extended break.
Speaking about Kohli, the Pakistan cricket legend said that it is totally unnecessary to talk that much about the Indian batter’s form, as he is already a modern-day legend and fit to regain his form.
Wasim Akram said during a media interaction organized by Star Sports Network: “Whatever I am seeing since last year from Indian fans, against Virat Kohli, most of them fans, press maybe, having a go at Virat Kohli unnecessarily. He is just 33, he is one of the greatest of all time of modern-era. He is averaging 50 in all the formats, including T20, he is averaging 50. He is still fit as a fiddle, he is still one of the best fielders India has got.”
Akram is confident that Kohli will come back to form, but he hoped that it doesn’t happen in the Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan in Dubai.
He signed off by saying, “Form is temporary, class is forever and that is what Virat Kohli is. I am sure he will come back, he is a great player. I just hope that he does not come back against Pakistan.”
