Bangladesh suffered a major blow ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, starting on August 27 in the UAE, as their list of injured players got extended just a week before their opening match against Afghanistan on August 30 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

As reported by IANS, Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan have been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to their respective injuries.

Mahmud will be out of action for up to a month after he hurt his ankle during training last week, while Nurul needs more time to recover after he recently underwent surgery on an injured finger.

However, Bangladesh didn’t call for a replacement for Mahmud, but the left-handed batter Mohammad Naim has been added to the 17-member squad as a replacement for Nurul for the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh will depart for Dubai on Tuesday, August 23.

Shakib was quoted as saying by ICC: “I have no goals. My only aim is that we can do well in the (T20) World Cup and these are the preparations for it. If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or that someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool’s kingdom.

If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months’ time.”

Here’s the Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup 2022:

Shakib Al Hasan (c), Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Musaddek Hossain Saikat, Mahmud Ullah, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Shaif Uddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Shabbir Rahaman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim.
