India will open their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai.

India and Pakistan are set to square off in the upcoming Asia Cup | GettyThe countdown for the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan has begun. The Asian giants will face each other in the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28 in Dubai.

Since both the nations don’t play each other in bilateral series, the excitement for the game becomes unmatched. The last time they faced each other was during the T20 World Cup 2021, which saw Pakistan thrashing India by 10 wickets.

Amid the anticipation, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has downplayed the rivalry talks, saying that it is just another match in the tournament. The current BCCI president further said that even in his playing days, he had not looked the match against Pakistan as some special clash and the goal for him was always to win the tournament.

"I am seeing it as the Asia Cup. I do not see any tournament as India vs Pakistan. When I used to be in my playing days, India vs Pakistan was just another match for me. I always looked to win the tournament," Ganguly told India Today in an exclusive chat.

He expects the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team to do well in the six-team tournament.

"India are a good team and they have done very well in the recent times and hopefully they team will give a good performance in the Asia Cup as well," he said.

Ganguly recently confirmed that he will return to the cricket field for a special charity match during the upcoming second season of the Legends League cricket (LLC).

When asked if the crowd will be able to see his lofty sixes or not, the 50-year-old replied: "I don't know what will happen. I wish I can play cover drive like before. I wish I could make a connect bat and ball well. I will play just one game. Will Enjoy the game. It's a game for a good occasion and I am happy to participate in it."
