Ishan Kishan spearheaded India's dominant 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday (July 25).

The southpaw’s blistering knock of 44-ball 81 earned him the Player-of-the-Match award and gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Kishan stated that he avoids worrying about the outside world or constantly tracking what other players are doing.

“I don’t give so much focus to what is happening outside," Kishan told reporters. “I know the way I have to play and what is important is to just be in the moment. Don’t think about who is getting more runs or who is hitting more."

The wicketkeeper-batter highlighted that batting at No. 3 demands assessment of pitch conditions and building partnerships rather than taking reckless risks.

“Everyone can have that image in the team. But as a number three batter, you need to understand what is important when two wickets are down early," he added.

After a rocky start that left India struggling at 29/2, Kishan anchored the innings with two massive partnerships. He first stabilized the innings alongside captain Shreyas Iyer (25), before pairing up with Tilak Varma (60* off 29) for a devastating 94-run fourth-wicket stand that propelled the visitors to a massive 219/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 220 to win, the hosts lost wickets in clusters and were eventually bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs.

Ishan Kishan particularly dominated the mid-wicket region with powerful on-side strokes. His knock featured 9 fours and 2 sixes.

“You want to keep going. You want to take your chances or build a partnership. You need to understand the wicket and what is happening. When you are in those 22 yards, you just need to be aware of what's happening around you and what you want from the game," Kishan remarked.

Reflecting on his journey, Kishan revealed that he had two choices.

"Either I want to cry about it or I want to work hard and get into the team," he said.

"I chose the second option -- working hard, getting runs and making my team win. When things are not going your way, it's better to think about performance rather than feeling sorry about things which are not in your control." Kishan credited his family and friends for helping him stay positive during the tough period.

"A lot of support came from my friends and family. They made sure I stayed positive and happy. I did my part, but a lot of people were involved in this journey," he concluded.

The third and final T20I will be played at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday (July 26).
