The BCCI is considering hosting the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final for the 2025-27 cycle in India, and a proposal in this regard will be finalized at a later date.

In 2019, the International Cricket Council introduced the concept of WTC to popularize Test cricket. It is currently in its third edition.

England have hosted the two finals so far while the title clash of the third edition is due to be held at Lord’s in June 2025.

According to a PTI report, discussions regarding India’s hosting plan was held during the ICC’s chief executives committee in Zimbabwe last month, where the BCCI was represented by IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

The decision could mark a significant moment during Jay Shah’s tenure as ICC Chairman. Shah, the former BCCI secretary, took over the ICC Chairman post in December 2024.

“If India reaches the next WTC final, then it will be a great spectacle for the fans. Even otherwise (if India does not feature in the final), a match involving two other top teams will have a lot of takers,” PTI quoted a source close to the development.

The deteriorated bilateral relations between India and Pakistan could be play spoilsport if both the teams reach the final, but that is a situation which will be dealt with at that point of time.

New Zealand and Australia won the first two editions of the World Test Championship by defeating India in the final.
