There is a lot of excitement around Australia’s upcoming Test series against India. The reigning World Test Champions will host India in five Test matches, slated to get underway on November 22 in Perth.
India have won the last two Test series Down Under, while they have held onto the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy since March 2017.
With three months left for the highly-anticipated series, Australia legend Adam Gilchrist has made a bold prediction about the outcome.
The former wicketkeeper-batter reckoned it will be a closely-contested series and he backed the Aussies to emerge victorious at home.
“It is going to be another tough series for both teams. Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India knows how to go away and win overseas. Their fast bowling line-up at the moment is up there, on a par with most around the world. They are going to enjoy the conditions here. Besides, they have a terrifically talented batting line-up. It is going to be very, very even,” Gilchrist was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“Naturally, I am going to say Australia; I hope they get there. But it is too close to call. It will be a close tussle,” he added.
Recently, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said that they are determined to turn things around in the forthcoming home series against India.
"It's been ten years of unfinished business, it's been a long time, and I know we're extremely hungry to turn things around especially here at home," Lyon was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
"Don't get me wrong, India is an absolute superstar side and extremely challenging but I'm extremely hungry to turn things around and make sure we get that trophy back," he stated.
"Feel like we are a different team to a couple of years ago, we are on a journey of becoming a great Australian cricket team. We're definitely not there but we are along that journey and have been playing some decent cricket," he remarked.
The team that claims the Border-Gavaskar Trophy could be well poised to earn a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s next year. India are currently heading the points table, followed by the defending champions Australia.
