AUS v PAK 2023-24: WATCH – Abdullah Shafique drops a sitter at first slip to give David Warner reprieve on Day 1 at MCG

Pakistan paid a big price for the dropped chance as Warner and Khawaja put on 90 runs for the opening wicket.

Abdullah Shafique made a mess of an easy catch | GettyThe Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan got off to a disappointing start for the visitors as Abdullah Shafique dropped an absolute sitter in the slip cordon to give David Warner a lifeline in the first session of Day 1 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

During the third over of the day’s play, Shaheen Afridi bowled an absolute jaffa and forced Warner to nick the delivery. The ball raced to Shafique at first slip but he made a mess of what seemed to be an easy catch.

Shaheen was visibly gutted after Shafique spilled the catch. Warner was batting on two runs when he got the reprieve and the hosts were 6/0 after 2.5 overs at that point in time.

Here’s the video:

Pakistan paid a big price for that dropped chance as David Warner and Usman Khawaja put on 90 runs for the opening wicket. At the stroke of lunch, Warner was dismissed by Salman Agha for 38 off 83 balls with three boundaries.
