On Wednesday (July 19), Broad became only the fifth bowler in cricket history to claim 600 or more Test scalps, joining an elite list featuring legends such as Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708), Anderson (688), and Anil Kumble (619).

Broad accomplished the feat by dismissing Australia batter Travis Head on the opening day of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford, Manchester.

"There were a few hugs and handshakes, certainly from staff who have been in the changing room longer than me. It has a nice ring to it - getting my 600th [wicket] at the James Anderson End," Broad was quoted as saying to Sky Cricket.

"It was a special feeling. When I went past Glenn McGrath - my hero growing up - that was really cool. I am not saying I am at that level of bowler, but I suppose it's a sign of longevity,” he added.

In the all-time list of highest wicket takers in Ashes cricket, Broad is now placed at the third spot with 149 dismissals to his name, only behind the Australian duo of Shane Warne (195) and Glenn McGrath (157).

"I love Test cricket, I am addicted to it. I love the grit and competitiveness of it. It feels great to be on a list with legends of the game," he stated.

"I never felt like getting my Test cap was the dream. I wanted to make memories in it, win big series and experience a lot. That was my mindset. I never felt like playing Test cricket was an achievement. I feel very lucky to have played with some great players in some great teams," Broad further remarked.

Coming to the Manchester Test, England reduced Australia to 299/8 at stumps on Day 1. Chris Woakes starred with the ball for the hosts, returning with the figures of 4 for 52 in 19 overs.

For the visitors, Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne top scored on the opening day with 51 runs each.
