Team India were totally outplayed by Australia for the first two days of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final at The Oval.
However, the Rohit Sharma-led side fought back on Day 3, courtesy a valiant batting effort from Ajinkya Rahane (89) and Shardul Thakur (51).
Thanks to their half-centuries, India posted 296 in their first innings, conceding a substantial lead of 173 runs to Australia.
During the fag end of India’s innings, a rather unusual incident took place, leading to boos from the Indian fans towards the Australian players.
The incident happened in the 68th over when India’s No. 11 batter Mohammed Siraj was adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire. While Siraj opted for a review immediately, the Australian players were so confident that they started departing towards the dressing room.
The replay showed a thick inside edge off Siraj's bat before the ball struck his pads, prompting umpire Chris Gaffaney to reverse his decision.
Subsequently, Indian fans booed the Australian players as many of them had already reached the boundary line and were forced to take the field again.
