India captain Rohit Sharma hasn’t have the best of time in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023) against Australia which is being played at the Oval in London from June 7 onwards.
He did win the toss and chose to bowl first and despite India taking 3 wickets for 76 runs, failed to cash in on the advantage as Travis Head and Steve Smith had an excellent last session on day one.
The duo added 285 runs for the fourth wicket, with Travis Head hammering 163 runs in 174 balls while Steve Smith fell for 121 runs on day two, putting Australia in the driver’s seat.
However, the Indian captain managed to keep himself and his teammates entertained thanks to his unique ways of taking DRS reviews.
On day one, he made people smile when he took a no-look DRS review by making a signal behind his back, and on day two, he almost took a DRS review as he struggled to decide whether to go for it or not.
The incident happened in the 97th over bowled by Mohammad Shami he got the ball to curve into Alex Carey and he was hit on the pads.
However, umpire Chris Gaffaney wasn’t interested. But the Indian captain consulted with his fielders and wicketkeeper KS Bharat whether to take the review or not as the ball seemingly was missing the leg stump.
Rohit Sharma kept his hands in the form of the DRS signal but didn’t touch them to complete the signal as he battled to make a decision and by the time he did, the timer had run out.
Umpire Gaffaney looked a bit confused as Rohit Sharma and the Indian team walked to have drinks.
