Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul will miss the remainder of IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in June after a significant tear to his tendon was confirmed, which will require surgery.

Rahul had hurt himself while trying to stop a ball from going to the boundary in the RCB clash on May 1. He couldn't open the innings and eventually walked out to bat at number 11, but was in no position to help his team get past the line chasing 127, as he remained unbeaten on 0 in three balls.

On Friday (May 5), LSG and the India cricketer himself confirmed the development which comes as a massive blow to the franchise and Team India ahead of next month's WTC Final against Australia.

LSG wrote in a statement, “Following the injury to Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul in the game against RCB, further tests and scans have unfortunately confirmed a significant tear to his tendon which will require surgery.

We are continuing to provide all possible support to KL at this difficult time and are working with him to ensure the best care on his road to recovery. However, the extent of the injury means that he is set for a lengthy layoff, which will include the remainder of this IPL season.

His presence on and off the field will be sorely missed by the Super Giants, as we continue our push to reach the playoffs for the second consecutive year. We can't wait to see KL back on the field doing what he does best, and hope he gets back as soon as possible.”

The cricketer meanwhile took to Instagram and penned a lengthy post to update the fans on his injury and confirm that he will be away from cricketing action for a while after his surgery.
