Ravichandran Ashwin | GettyIndia spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has overtaken James Anderson to claim the summit position in the updated ICC Test bowling rankings.

Ashwin achieved the top spot after taking six wickets in India’s second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test win over Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. On the other hand, Anderson dropped to second place after England's dramatic loss to New Zealand in the Wellington Test.

During the Delhi Test, Ashwin claimed the prized scalps of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the first innings before taking Alex Carey’s wicket.

The seasoned off-spinner was at it again in the second innings, dismissing three of Australia’s top five batters while his spin partner Ravindra Jadeja ran through the touring batting line-up from the other end.

Jadeja’s 10 wickets in the second Test also sees him move up the bowling rankings into eighth, and strengthens his grip on top spot in the all-rounder rankings.

Star England batter Joe Root’s return to form in Wellington also sees him surpassing Travis Head and Babar Azam into third position in the ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith continue to occupy the first and second spot respectively among Test batters.

New Zealand wicketkeeper Tom Blundell is a fresh entrant in the top 10, rising four places to seventh after he helped the Kiwis to their famous follow-on victory by one run in the second Test against England.

England youngster Harry Brook continues his meteoric rise up the batting rankings after another superb century, jumping up 15 slots to draw level with Virat Kohli in 16th.
