Australian spinners ran through the Indian batting line-up in the first session on Day 1.

Matthew Kuhnemann returned with a five-wicket haul | GettyThe third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia got underway in Indore Wednesday (March 1).

India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. The pitch became the talk of the town in the first session itself as the hosts found themselves reeling at 84/7 at Lunch.

Australia’s spin troika of Matthew Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy ran through the Indian batting line-up, sharing seven wickets among them.

Soon after the post-lunch session, India’s innings folded for 109 in 33.2 overs as left-arm spinner Kuhnemann (5-16) claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. On the other hand, Lyon (3-35) and Murphy (1-23) returned with three and one scalps respectively.

It was a listless batting display from the home team on a turning Indore track. Virat Kohli top scored for India with 22 while most of them failed to reach the double-digit mark.

Cricket fraternity was left staggered by India’s batting collapse and shared their views on the surface served for the third Test.
