PAK v NZ 2022-23: WATCH – Babar Azam irked by captaincy question after drawn Test series against New Zealand

Pakistan failed to win another home Test series with Babar at the helm of affairs.

Babar Azam | GettyThe second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi ended in a draw on Friday (January 6). It was a dramatic final day of cricket as Sarfaraz Ahmed fought hard for the hosts with a stunning knock of 118 but it was not the century but the bad light that came to Pakistan’s rescue.

Chasing 319 in the fourth innings, the Babar Azam-led side was on 304/9 when umpires Alex Wharf and Aleem Dar declared the light unfeasible to continue with three overs left.

With this outcome, the two-match Test series ended in a 0-0 tie and Pakistan skipper Babar once again came under the scanner for not delivering positive result as captain in the longest format.

Notably, Pakistan had suffered a Test series defeat at the hands of Australia and England at home last year under Babar’s leadership.

After the Karachi Test, Babar Azam addressed a press conference, where the journalists put him in an uncomfortable position by asking questions on captaincy.

"Kuch log keh rahe hai aapki team pe grip kamzor hoti ja rahi hai. Dosti yaari ka silsila Pakistan team mein khata ho rahi hai. (Some people are saying that your grip over the team is getting weaker and your friendships are getting over in the Pakistan Cricket team)", the journalist enquired.

Babar interrupted, "Which friends?"

The journalist finished his question, asking, "Since Shahid Afridi came, he has changed the vice-captaincy in ODIs, with Shan Masood coming in to fill in the role. Now it's being said that even Test captaincy will be snatched away from you soon?"

Babar then gave a savage reply as he said, "Sir, you will only be knowing to whom is the captaincy going. I don't care about this. My work is to perform in the field and make my team also perform."
