Star Australia batter Steve Smith has made a shocking claim about retirement, saying that he is not sure about playing another home Test series.

Smith’s statement came after slamming his 30th century in the longest format of the game. The right-hander brought up a well-made 104 off 192 balls to help Australia make 475 runs at stumps on Day 2 in the ongoing third Test at SCG.

After the home series against South Africa, Australia have two big Test tours lined up against India and England. While Smith is a key member of the Test side, he has now said that he is unsure about his future.

As quoted by the Mirror, the 34-year-old was asked if he would play another home series for Australia. Smith said that he doesn't know and will take one tour at a time.

“I don’t know. We’ll see,” Smith quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“I’m enjoying it at the moment. I really can’t say how long I’ll play for. I’m not sure. Take it one tour at a time. Just enjoy it and enjoy training and trying to get better as well. Whilst I’m doing that I’m happy playing. But I don’t know how long it’ll last,” he added.

The former Australia captain spoke about his innings and admitted that he didn't feel great in his first 60-70 balls.

“I didn't feel great my first 60-70 balls but after that things started to click and I started felt a lot better,” Smith stated.

“Pleased I was able to get through that initial period and give myself a chance,” he further added.

Smith also praised Usman Khawaja for his knock as the southpaw stayed unbeaten on 195 at the close of play on Day 2.

“It was a great innings, I thought he played exceptionally well from ball one," Smith said on Khawaja's landmark innings. "He was nice and patient when he needed to be and played the spin well. Hopefully he can get two or even three hundred tomorrow potentially.”
