Anrich Nortje was lucky to escape a serious injury on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test.

Anrich Nortje knocked down by spider camera | ScreengrabIn a bizarre on-field scene, spider camera knocked down pacer Anrich Nortje on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa at MCG.

Nortje was stationed at backward square leg during Australia’s first innings when a fast-moving spider camera of Fox Cricket hit him and he fell on the ground. Fortunately, the Proteas fast bowler was on his feet immediately and did not leave the playing arena.

Anrich Nortje was lucky to escape a serious injury as the ‘Flying Fox’ camera, which hovers above the players, went too low and struck the speedster from behind.

Nortje was walking to his field position in between the South African overs and the sudden strike took him by surprise.

Coming to the Test match, the hosts were on 386/3 at the close of play on Day 2, leading South Africa by 197 runs in the first innings.

Opener David Warner starred with the bat for Australia, smashing a brilliant double century in his 100th Test appearance but he walked retired hurt after injuring himself while celebrating his milestone.

At stumps, Travis Head and Alex Carey were unbeaten in the middle on 48 and 9, respectively.
