David Warner walked back retired hurt on 200 off 254 balls | GettyAustralia opener David Warner ended his 1089 days long wait for a three-figure mark in Test cricket, slamming a stunning double ton on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against South Africa at MCG.

In what is his 100th Test match for Australia, the southpaw unleashed and took the Proteas attack to the cleaners. His first hundred came off 144 balls and then he went berserk, notching up second hundred in just 110 balls.

This knock didn’t only end his century drought but he also became the first Australian to score a double hundred in his 100th Test.

However, Warner’s ecstatic celebration after reaching the landmark cut short his innings as he walked back retired hurt.

The swashbuckling left-hander got to his 200 with a boundary against Lungi Ngidi and immediately went down on his knees and pumped his fists. He also pulled off his trademark jump celebration, but ended up injuring himself in the process.

David Warner was seen clutching his thighs before he called for some medical attention. He later walked back retired hurt on 200 off 254 balls as the Melbourne crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Coming to the Test match, the hosts were on 386/3 at the close of play on Day 2, leading South Africa by 197 runs in the first innings. Travis Head and Alex Carey were unbeaten in the middle on 48 and 9, respectively.
