PAK v ENG 2022: Babar Azam stays in dressing room to protest the behaviour of security personnel in Karachi – Report

Babar didn't come out to lead the team for one hour on Day 2 of the ongoing Karachi Test.

Babar Azam | GettyPakistan skipper Babar Azam didn't come out to lead the team for one hour on Day 2 of the ongoing Karachi Test against England and remained in the dressing room to protest the behaviour of the security personnel.

According to media reports, Babar was furious when he was stopped from going out with some other members of the team and their families for dinner on Saturday (December 17) night from the team hotel.

Babar had planned to go out for dinner with Sarfaraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali, Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq and their families at a local restaurant.

However, when the Pakistan captain stepped out of the hotel room, the security personnel stopped him from going outside, citing that he and other players were supposed to seek prior clearance about their movements since the two teams have been provided President level security for the Test series.

Apparently, Babar Azam found the security measures intrusive and after a heated argument with a senior official, he went back to his hotel room.

Reports claim that Babar stayed off the field for one hour on Sunday (December 18) to show his protest.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is silent over the matter, the official version given is that Babar had a severe headache when he came to the ground and hence he couldn't take the field for first hour.

Considering that England are touring Pakistan for the first time since 2005, PCB is not willing to take any risk and, thus, the two teams are being provided President level security for the series.

However, the players have now become fed-up with the constant security around them.

"It is for their own good and Pakistan cricket," one PCB source said, as quoted by PTI.

Sources close to the players say that while security for the visiting side is logical, why should Pakistani players go through such strict measures.
