Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently spoke about his desire to return to Test cricket and join the Australian Test team for the upcoming tour of India.

He has played only seven matches in whites, the last of which was played against Bangladesh back in September 2017.

Maxwell was added to the Test squad for the recent tour of Sri Lanka. However, Travis Head recovered from a hamstring injury, which saw him getting benched in the first match. He failed to make it to the starting XI for the second Test as well.

He will be participating in Sheffield Shield games ahead of the Big Bash League (BBL) to fulfill his wish of wearing the whites again.

He remarked that it’s exciting to play first-class cricket after a long time.

"It's exciting, I haven't played (first-class cricket) since 2019," he told cricket.com.au

"I did actually have a look at the schedule properly yesterday and I think I'm going to be available for a couple of Shield games before the Big Bash. It's nice to have that to look forward to and potentially get some red-ball cricket finally.”

The star batter has admitted that his inclusion in the Test squad for the Lankan tour has rekindled his desire to play the longest format.

"It's been a long time and having that taste of just being in the Test squad was so exciting and reinvigorated and reminded myself of where I want to be. It's something that I've made no secret about, that I really want to play Test cricket again and I'm just hoping by the end of the summer hopefully I can be somewhere around that Test squad," he stated.

The 33-year-old believes that if given the opportunity to play, he will excel in the four-match Test series against Rohit Sharma and his men that will take place next year.

"I've been there more times than my Indian wife, so I think I'm well accustomed to the area and well accustomed to the people," Maxwell said while talking about India

"It's somewhere where I feel really comfortable, and I've played a lot of cricket over there.

"I know that if I can get that opportunity, I know that it's going to be something that feels comfortable for me and somewhere I know I can be successful."
