England suffered their first defeat in Tests under the new leadership duo of captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. The hosts were crushed by an innings and 12 runs as South Africa closed the game inside three days and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

England’s "Bazball" approach looked completely out of sorts as South Africa was all over them. Bowling first, after winning the toss, the visitors bundled out the opposition for just 165 runs with Kagiso Rabada picking the five-wicket haul.

With the bat, South Africa then took a healthy lead of 161 runs and then yet again bowled sensationally to rattle out the Stokes-led side for 149 runs to win the match by a massive margin.

Following England’s big defeat, the term "Bazball" has become a talking point yet again as many were critical of the approach and lauded South Africa for exposing the hosts’ batting line-up.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif took to his Twitter account and pointed out why "Bazball" didn’t work against South Africa.

“South Africa shows that Bazball doesn't work against world class bowling attack with variety and a sharp  captain who sets smart fields," Mohammad Kaif tweeted.

Wasim Jaffer also took a jibe at England’s "Bazball" approach after their innings defeat against South Africa.

"Bazball has done wonders in the fourth inns"

SA: There will be no fourth inns,” Wasim Jaffer Tweeted.

The second Test between England and South Africa is slated to take place in Manchester, beginning August 25.
