Sri Lanka on Thursday (July 28) completed a resounding 246-run victory over Pakistan in the second Test at Galle to level the two-match series 1-1.
The tourists had chased down the target of 342 to win the series opener but the task was way tougher for them in the second Test.
The hosts set a gigantic target of 508 in the second match and Pakistan got bowled out for 261 on the final day to suffer a massive loss. Except for skipper Babar Azam (81), no visiting batter managed to rise to the occasion and hit a half-century.
Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya claimed 8 wickets, including a 5-wicket haul in the second innings while Ramesh Mendis ended the match with 9 scalps.
With this dominant victory, Sri Lanka moved back to the third spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
In the updated Test Championship points table, Sri Lanka occupy the third spot with 53.33 percentage points. India are holding the fourth position with 52.08 percentage points, while Pakistan have dropped to the fifth slot with 51.85 percentage points.
South Africa continue to lead the table with a PCT of 71.43%, followed by Australia, who are at 70%. The Proteas will get a chance to widen the gap when they take on England in a three-match Test series next month.
The final of the second cycle of the World Test Championship will be held at Lord’s next year.
