Pakistan skipper Babar Azam put up a brave batting performance on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia in Karachi on Tuesday (March 15).
Chasing 506 to win, the hosts were reeling at 21/2 when Babar arrived in the middle. The Pakistan captain showed a lot of discipline and produced a classy century to ensure that his team stayed in the contest at stumps on Day 4.
Babar shared an unbroken 171-run stand for the third wicket with opener Abdullah Shafique as Pakistan ended the fourth day on 192/2. While the skipper remained unbeaten on 102 off 197 balls, Shafique returned with 71 not out off 226 balls.
For his stunning hundred in a pressure situation, Babar Azam received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
Here are the reactions:
Heading into the last day, the home team needs 314 runs to win the Karachi Test with eight wickets in hand.
"This knock means a lot to me, the team needed it," Babar said after stumps on Day 4.
"Fortunately I have managed to get a good partnership with Shafique. The match is not over yet, so we need to continue playing in the same way, and the other batters also need to step up," he added.
