New Zealand coach Gary Stead on Monday (February 21) confirmed that fast bowler Trent Boult will miss the second Test against South Africa. Boult had already missed the first Test, which the Kiwis won by an innings and 276 runs at the Hagley Oval.

Stead, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, said Boult was not in a position to be ready for the second Test and they didn't want to risk his body. "He is not in a position to be available with his loads and where he's at," he said.

Earlier, Boult and his wife welcomed their third child. "Since his wife has been having the baby he's missed out on a lot of opportunities to play cricket and bowl. We just felt the risk of him playing was far too great at the moment."

New Zealand will go ahead with the same 15-player squad for the second Test. Stead said they thought about adding a frontline spinner into the bowling attack, but it didn't happen.

"We considered a [frontline] spin option but didn't feel as though we needed it on this pitch, through history and the way it was looking after the last Test match," he said.

While Tim Southee, Matt Henry took the new ball in the first Test which the Kiwis dominated, Kyle Jamieson and Neil Wagner are the other two pacers in the attack.

Colin de Grandhomme bowled in the first innings, but he wasn't required in the second innings as the fast-bowling quartet did the job.
