Former Australia cricketer Chadd Sayers told Shane Warne to 'shut up' for his constant criticism of players like Mitchell Starc and Usman Khawaja, after they both proved him wrong with their performance in the ongoing Ashes series.

Warne was not in favor of playing Khawaja for the fourth Test and he felt Mitchell Marsh was the right man to be in the playing eleven. The Aussies have already taken an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the series.

"Australia has been waiting a long time for Mitchell Marsh to come good and right at the moment, he's in the form of his life," Warne had said when Australia had announced the squad for the fourth Test.

"For me, I just think as a bowler who would I rather bowl to, Khawaja or Mitchell Marsh? I'd much rather bowl to Khawaja."

The 35-year-old smashed a hundred on a Test comeback in the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney Cricket Ground. He was the top scorer in Australia's first innings with 137 runs as they declared on 416/8.

Sayers took to his Twitter account and slammed the Australia great. He wrote, “Shane Warne keeps bagging his own Aussie players. Went hard at Starc - Wrong and now Uzzie - wrong #shutup.”

Earlier, Warne had pointed finger at Starc and he wasn't confident of the speedster delivering in the Ashes 2021-22. But Starc proved him wrong and he is currently the highest wicket-taker with 15 scalps.

"He needs to find a bit of rhythm and some form. He had a really poor [T20] World Cup. He's just not bowling well enough. It's too important at the Gabba. So I'm all for Jhye Richardson," Warne had said.
