Speedster Pat Cummins got his Australian Test captaincy off to a great start as he picked up a five-wicket in England’s first innings of the Ashes 2021-22 at Gabba.

Cummins was appointed captain weeks ahead of the Ashes series after Tim Paine stepped down from the role over sexting scandal. There were a lot of expectations from Cummins and he didn’t let anyone down.

The right-arm pacer led his team from the front and returned with the figures of 5 for 38 in 13.1 overs as Australia bundled out England for a paltry 147. Haseeb Hameed (25), Ben Stokes (5), Chris Woakes (21), Ollie Robinson (0), and Mark Wood (8) were his victims.

Apart from Cummins, Mitchell Starc (2-35) and Josh Hazlewood (2-42) also claimed two scalps each as the hosts skittled the visitors in 50.1 overs on Day 1.

For his outstanding bowling figures on captaincy debut, Pat Cummins received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
