India captain Virat Kohli and New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson share mutual respect and admiration for each other. It was seen once again after the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final when Kohli hugged Williamson and congratulated him for the title win.
New Zealand won the WTC final by 8 wickets and Williamson was the top scorer (52*) for them while chasing a target of 139 runs. He and Ross Taylor put up a partnership of 96* runs to ensure New Zealand win the inaugural WTC final.
After the win, Kohli gave Williamson a warm hug and they also had a chat during the post-match presentation. Both of them know each other since the age-group (under-19) cricket days and they have often opened up about their friendship.
Recently in a video for ICC, Kohli had said they connect on different levels which have strengthened their bonding. "Well, I would say out of many people that I have become friends with beyond a certain point of professionalism, Kane would be one of them. We connected on different levels. We connected on a lot of things off cricket; in life how we look at things.
"It was good to see his personality, and his perception or his way to look at things is very similar to mine when it comes to life and we really bonded on that," he said.
