WTC 2021 Final: WATCH – Virat Kohli opens his account with a glorious cover drive, fans react in awe

Kohli looked in good touch during his stay at the crease before Lunch break on Day 2.

Virat Kohli's trademark cover drive | ScreengrabAfter rain played spoilsport on Day 1, the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021 final between India and New Zealand finally got underway at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Saturday (June 19).

Invited to bat first, India got off to a decent start as the duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 62 runs for the opening wicket.

Kyle Jamieson drew the first blood for New Zealand, dismissing Rohit on 34 while Gill became the victim of Neil Wagner when he was on 28.

The dismissals of both the openers brought Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli to the crease and the Indian captain looked in good touch during his stay at the crease before the Lunch break was taken.

During the 27th over of India’s innings, Kohli produced a stunning cover drive to get off the mark. It was a half-volley from Wagner and India skipper pounced on it, leaning into a gorgeous check drive through the covers to accumulate four runs.

Virat Kohli’s trademark cover drive to open his account also left Indian fans in awe.

While Pujara was yet to open his account, Kohli remained unbeaten on 6 (12) as India went into the Lunch break with a score of 69/2 on the board after 28 overs.
