WTC 2021 Final: Team India wear black armbands in memory of Milkha Singh

Milkha Singh, died on Friday (June 18) after a month-long battle with COVID-19.

Team India is wearing black armbands in memory of India's legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, who passed away on Friday (June 18). BCCI posted an update on Twitter after the Indian cricketers walked out on the second day of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Singh, who was 91-year-old, died due to post-covid complications. Apart from winning the gold medal for India in the Asian Games four times, he was also the 1958 Commonwealth Games champion.

"#TeamIndia is wearing black armbands in remembrance of Milkha Singhji, who passed away due to COVID-19. ???? #WTC21," BCCI wrote on Twitter. 

Earlier, India captain Virat Kohli had paid tribute to one of India's greatest athletes on Twitter. He had posted a tweet before the match and wrote that Singh's legacy inspired the whole nation.

"A legacy that inspired a whole nation to aim for excellence. To never give up and chase your dreams. Rest in Peace #MilkhaSingh ji Folded hands. You will never be forgotten," he tweeted.
