Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has backed the current Team India bowling unit to come good against any side. He believes a good bowling attack can win you the Test match by picking 20 wickets.

India will be up against New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final from June 18. Gambhir likes the depth in the Indian bowling line-up which includes quality spinners and fast bowlers.

“I have always believed that it is bowlers who win you the Test matches. To win a Test match, you need to take 20 wickets, and I think the current Indian bowling line-up can trouble any team at any surface,” Gambhir told Aaj Tak on eSalaamCricket. “The depth in Indian bowling attack is immense,” he added.

Gambhir gave New Zealand a bit advantage over India because of their preparation ahead of the WTC final. The Kiwis played a two-match Test series against England and won it by 1-0. 

“It is difficult to predict the favorites in the one-off final. But I feel New Zealand will have a slight advantage because they have played two Test matches in England, and most importantly, they have won it,” said Gambhir.

“You can play as many intra-squad matches, but there is no substitute to match practice. As a result, new Zealand will be better prepared for the WTC final,” he further added.

In case of a draw, the title will be shared between India and New Zealand, but Gambhir is sure of both the teams going hard for the win.

“Both India and New Zealand should go for the win. There is no point playing for a draw in the WTC final as it is not a bilateral series,” he said.
