Indian cricket team has begun an intra-squad practice match on Friday (June 11) to prepare for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand to be played in Southampton from June 18-22 after completing their quarantine in England.
Virat Kohli and his team haven’t played any cricket since the last month after the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) on May 4 and this practice match – which is a closed-door affair – will give Team India a much-needed competitive feel before the WTC 2021 Final next week.
The Indian team reached Southampton on June 3 and served quarantine at the Hilton hotel in the stadium premises. They were allowed to train in small groups in the run-up to the WTC Final after completing the third day of their hard quarantine in the United Kingdom.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on Friday posted some pictures from the intra-squad match in Southampton.
The BCCI captioned the post by saying: “Excellent setting for an intra-squad match simulation here in Southampton. #TeamIndia”
They also shared another post with a caption: “Snapshots from the first session of our intra-squad match simulation here in Southampton.”
Earlier, the BCCI shared a video from the training session on Thursday with Indian stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rishabh Pant batting in nets while R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj bowled to them.
