Britain might have added India to travel "red list" after spike in COVID-19 cases, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (April 19) stated that the World Test Championship (WTC) final will go ahead as planned.

India and New Zealand are scheduled to play the WTC final in Southampton from June 18.

Entering the "red list" means traveling to UK from India will be banned and it also makes 10-day hotel quarantine mandatory for UK residents arriving back home.

However, the governing body is still hopeful of conducting the WTC final in a bio-secure environment.

"The ECB and other members have demonstrated how we can stage international cricket safely in the middle of a pandemic and we are confident that we can continue to do that and that the WTC Final will go ahead as planned in June in the UK," ICC said in a statement.

"We are currently discussing with the UK Government the impact of countries being on the ‘red list’," it added.

After the WTC final, Team India are also due to contest in five Test against England from August 4 to September 14.

India reocrded 1,761 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the biggest one-day spike, and over 2.50 lakh new cases. The total number of cases, which shows a worrying rise in the second wave of the pandemic, now stands at more than 1.50 crore mark.
