English Skipper Joe Root on Monday said that all-rounder, Moeen Ali could feature in the second Test match against Sri Lanka after recovering from COVID-19.
Moeen ali was kept in an isolation after being the only England player to test positive for COVID 19 on arrival in Sri Lanka on January 3.
The all-rounder was set to be released from isolation on 13th January. However, the period was extended after the all-rounder was diagnosed with a new UK variant of coronavirus and missed the first Test-match, which the visitors won by seven wickets on Monday.
After being isolated from his teammates for 13 days, the all-rounder joined England’s squad at the weekend and captain Joe root said that we are just thrilled for him to be back among us.
“It’s so good to have him back around the dressing room, he’s such a great character and such a big part of the squad. We are just thrilled for him to be back among us and to be back in training when we start getting ready for the next game.” Joe Root said.
However, commenting on his selection for the second Test-match Joe Root said his inclusion in the lineup for the second Test had not been ruled out despite little training time.
“With Mo, I think it’s important that we take it day by day and that we look at where he’s at over the next couple of days. It would be wrong to completely rule him out,” he said.
Moeen Ali has not played a test over the past 18 months, having taken a break after the opening match of the 2019 Ashes and missing out on tours to New Zealand and South Africa.
33-year-old spin bowler and attacking middle-order batsman, Moeen Ali, has represented England in 60 Test-matches and has scored 2782 with the bat. While with the ball the former has scalped 181 wickets at an average of 36.6.
The second Test match is set to take place from January 22 at Galle.
