The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) applauded India pacer Mohammed Siraj after he picked his maiden Test five-wicket haul at the Gabba. 

Siraj had lost his father before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but he still decided to stay with the team. His father had dreamt of seeing him playing for India in Tests and he wanted to fulfill his wish. 

Before the series, Siraj had said: "It is a very big loss for me, my father always supported me. It was his dream that I keep on playing for India and make the country proud. I just want to fulfill my father's dream and that is why I keep on thinking that my father will always be there with me."

Not only the Hyderabad pacer made his debut in the second Test of the series, but he also bagged a fifer in just his third Test of the career.

BCCI, on Twitter, said they are proud of Siraj and shared a video. "Before the Border-Gavaskar Test series, Siraj lost his father. He then made a promise to himself. Today, he fulfilled it. Siraj, we are all very proud of you," the tweet read.

In the video, Siraj said his mother had told him to stay in Australia and play for India. "In this situation, every team member has supported me and it really felt nice. Virat Bhai also told me not to worry and he asked me to stay strong. I talked to my mother and she told me to stay back in Australia and fulfill my father's dream," he told BCCI.TV.

Siraj led the fast bowling attack in Brisbane after the senior bowlers got injured and ruled out of the series. India have lost Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav earlier, and Jasprit Bumrah for the last Test.

The Indian pacer has played three Test matches on this tour of Australia and picked 13 wickets.
