The 26-year-old lost his father during the Australia tour but he decided not to return home and stay with the team. Later, Siraj was handed-over the Test cap in the second match of the series at Melbourne.

Siraj replaced the injured Mohammad Shami, who got his arm fractured while batting in the second innings of the first Test. He picked up five wickets in his debut match which India won by 8 wickets.

In the third Test, Australia chose to bat first after winning the toss. Unfortunately, only 7 overs of cricket was possible in the first session because of continuous rain interruptions. Warner (5) was the only batsman to get out.
