SL v ENG 2021: Moeen Ali tests positive for COVID-19 after landing in Sri Lanka

The England all-rounder will now self-isolate for 10 days.

Moeen Ali | GettyEngland all-rounder Moeen Ali has tested positive for COVID-19 after landing in Sri Lanka and he will self-isolate for 10 days, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Monday (January 17).

“Following PCR tests administered on arrival at the airport in Hambantota on Sunday 3rd January, The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that Moeen Ali has tested positive for COVID-19. Ali will now observe a period of 10-days self-isolation, in accordance with the Sri Lanka Government’s protocol on quarantine,” the ECB said in a statement.

Seam bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes, who was counted as a possible close contact, will also be observing a period of self-isolation.

“Chris Woakes has been deemed as a possible close contact, and he will observe a period of self-isolation and further testing,” it added.

England have arrived in Sri Lanka to play a two-match Test series that begins on January 14. Both the Tests will be held at the Galle International Stadium.

“The touring party will be PCR tested for a second time on Tuesday morning. At this stage, the team will train for the first time on Wednesday,” the ECB stated.
