Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan on Saturday (December 26) has been ruled out of the ongoing two-match Test series in New Zealand as well as the upcoming home series against South Africa with a thigh injury that he sustained during the third T20I against the Black Caps last week.
The injury had already ruled Shadab out from the ongoing Boxing Day Test against New Zealand and now has been sidelined for six weeks, making him unavailable for both New Zealand Tests and Proteas series, comprising two Tests and three T20Is from January 26 to February 14.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday confirmed that the all-rounder has been advised a six-week rest following MRI scans confirmed a “high-grade full-thickness tear to the Rectus Femoris muscle”.
In a statement, the PCB said: “Shadab will remain with the side in New Zealand, where he has started his rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the medical team.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan team doctor Dr. Sohail Saleem stated: “The MRI reports have confirmed it is a fresh injury and not the one that had sidelined him from the Zimbabwe series last month.”
He further added in a PCB statement: “The latest injury will be treated conservatively and Shadab will undergo a six-week rehabilitation programme during which he will have weekly ultrasound scans. After the competition of the six-week period, the medical panel will access and evaluate the injury before making a call on Shadab's return to competitive cricket.”
