England’s James Anderson on Tuesday (August 25) became the first fast bowler in cricket history to achieve the milestone of 600 Test wickets. The right-arm pacer reached the landmark when he dismissed Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali on the fifth day of the third and final Test between the two teams in Southampton.
Anderson had claimed a five-wicket haul in Pakistan's first innings, and he returned in their second innings to pick Abid Ali and Azhar after the visitors were made to follow on.
Only Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708) and Anil Kumble (619) had previously breached the 600-wicket barrier in the traditional format of the game, making Anderson just the fourth bowler with 600 or more Test scalps.
After this monumental achievement, the 38-year-old Anderson is deservedly garnering praises from all quarters.
India’s current, former cricketers also took to social media to congratulate and appreciate the veteran England paceman.
