Having made his return to the national side after 11 years, Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam has been in the news more for his stance than his batting exploits.

Fawad on Sunday (August 23) grabbed the headlines once again for his unusual batting stance as he faced 74 balls for his 21 runs in Pakistan’s first innings of the ongoing third Test against England at Southampton.
Alam’s stance reminded former England captains and current commentators Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain of former Australia skipper George Bailey.
Bailey, who represented Australia in 5 Tests, 90 ODIs and 30 T20Is, had a textbook-like stance for the most part of his career but the last few years nearly saw him not watching the bowler in his run-up.
As the comparisons were drawn, former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody opined that Fawad has an unorthodox stance but he should only be judged for his performance.
Taking to Twitter, Moody wrote, "Yes Fawad Alam has an unorthodox stance but at point of ball release he’s in a solid position, judge him on his performance over time, not how he looks. We have seen many exceptional test players with eccentric approaches succeed! #ENGvPAK".
He also added, "Authenticity and individuality makes our game intriguing if we were to manufacture techniques we wouldn’t see the likes of Lara, Smith, Malinga, Akram & Muralijust to mention a few!"
Coming to the match, Pakistan got bowled out for 273 at stumps on Day 3 after England declared their first innings on 583/8. Skipper Azhar Ali was the top scorer with 141 not out, while wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan made 53.
