England’s uncapped batsman Dan Lawrence is set to miss out on the chance to make his Test debut in the upcoming second Test of the ongoing three-match Test series against Pakistan after having left the bio-secure bubble at the Ageas Bow due to a family bereavement.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday (August 10) has confirmed that the Essex batsman Lawrence will not be available for selection for the second Test against Pakistan starting on Thursday (August 13) at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The hosts who are currently 1-0 up in the Test series after a three-wicket win at Emirates Old Trafford last week, will not call up a replacement for Lawrence for the Southampton Test against Pakistan.

The ECB announced the same in a statement: “Lawrence, who has yet to make his Test debut, was named as one of the reserves in the #raisethebat Test series against Pakistan. He will not be available for selection when the second Test starts on Thursday at the Ageas Bowl.”

It further reads: “The England and Wales Cricket Board request that the media respects Dan and his family’s request for privacy at this time. England will not call-up a replacement for the second Test.”

The 23-year old Lawrence, who is yet to make his debut in international cricket, has been with the England squad as an official reserve since the starting of the home series with the West Indies series.

Lawrence was seen as a possible replacement for Ben Stokes who also left the England squad due to family reasons for the second Test. Stokes will miss the remaining two Tests of the ongoing Pakistan Test series due to family reasons and can be now replaced by Zak Crawley.

Noteworthy, the uncapped right-hander has an average of just below 39 and has scored 10 hundred in the First-class cricket for Essex. Lawrence was also the third-youngest batsman to score a century in County Championship when he scored 161 against Surrey as a 17-year old in 2015.
